Our Practice
Charism Counseling Center provides therapy for clients in Chicago. The word “charism” (pronounced “care-ism”) has its roots in the Greek language and means “favor” or “gift.” The foundation of our work at Charism Counseling Center is grounded in the belief that everyone is born with unique gifts and that experiences in life can interrupt, mask or dim these talents.
Our Clients
Our clients are predominantly women, who are challenged by competing personal and professional demands. They are smart, thoughtful, committed and goal-oriented. From the outside, they seem to be living an ideal life. They “present well” but often feel like imposters on the inside. They have devoted significant amounts of time and energy into roles defined by their association with others—colleague, parent, partner, spouse—often at the expense of their own needs.
Counseling Specialities
Anxiety for “High-Achieving” Women
Secretly, you take pride in being referred to as “Type A.” You dot your i’s and cross your t’s twice—just to make sure. And all of your conscientiousness and hard work has paid off for you.
Depression in Millennials and Gen X
You just don’t have the energy anymore. And mornings are the hardest. Every day when your alarm goes off, you lie in bed dreading your neverending to-do list.
Healing from the “Hustle” for Women of Color
Stop. With all due respect, you’re probably doing too much. Chances are you’re working full-time, going to school and launching your own business on the side.
Queer Exploration & Identity Integration
Unlike many of your straight and queer friends, your own sexuality has been a source of confusion or avoidance for as long as you can remember.
Spiritual & Faith-Based Counseling
We support clients in the process of recognizing and exploring the context spirituality and faith play in the understanding of their individual lives, relationships and the world, as a whole.
